Our elf, David, came to celebrate my special day. At Christmas, he gave us the Elf on the Shelf B-day book, so I filled out the invitation, we read the book, and then I crossed my fingers that he would come. He did, with a special balloon, a huge donut (with candles) and he made my lunch for school. My lunch had a little note and picture of David and that silly elf wrapped each lunch item in my bag in b-day wrapping paper!
Since I had school on my birthday, I was able to bring a class treat. Mommy went all out (her mistake was letting me browse Pinterest one night looking for ideas) and we came up with these adorable pudding/dirt cups complete with gummy worms and pipecleaner flower spoons. Needless to say, the treats were a hit!
After-school, we went out for dinner with Grammy, Uncle Matt and Emmett and then returned home for ice cream cake and presents. I received lego sets, a new battery for my John Deere, a kid's digital camera, fireworks, some games/trinkets, and a Magic 8 ball (um, a major highlight... I now can predict the future).
I chose a hockey guy on my cake this year :)
Since I am growing up, I had my first "kids" party. I invited all the boys in my class, Gen (our neighbor and only girl allowed besides Mom) and the 3 boys who also live next door. There were 16 kids and I chose cosmic bowling!
Mom tried to get some glow pictures so you could get the full effect. It was crazy, exhausting fun... bowling requires MAJOR patience, clearly something that not all Kindergartners have :)
Cooper the clown is such a groupie! He is "that" brother who everyone loves to hang out with, but he can be so annoying too.
This was my first bowling experience without using the ramp. I decided that since I was 6 years old, I am "so" over that thing. I decided to just toss, and I mean toss, that ball down the lane. My final score was an 81 and I had had a spare!
Mason also joined our party... he was the only non-school friend as I still think of him as my "unofficial" brother. I went to daycare with Mason growing up and now that we are in Kindergarten, we only see each other every once in a while. I miss my buddy and was so glad he could make it. My cake (see picture) was a pull-apart bowling lanes/pins cake. It was awesome! My party favors was the soda pop, with a bubble tape gum dispenser with Mommy's own bowling ball creation on it, along with a rainbow lollipop and a bowling pin tag that read, "I hope you had a Ball!" Yep, Mommy is going Pinterest crazy.Gift opening time was nuts-o. I was good about opening cards and thanking my friends, it just took a LONG while with sugared up kids to get all the present unwrapped. I received so many fun/awesome gifts. I am one lucky boy!
In other news... here is a glimpse at our church photo. We only ordered a few of these since Kristin (cousin) is taking our family photos next month. We still thought this one was pretty cute of the family. We mostly needed to get our picture taken for the new directory.
Mom and Dad had the hospital's charity ball a few weeks ago. This year's theme was Kentucky Derby. It was really fun for them to dress-up, enjoy a "real" dinner and visit and hang out with friends and co-workers. Mommy's fascinator is a true fascinator from a designer who makes them for Derby attendees. She loved her hat and hopes to wear it for at least Halloween someday or else she will rent it out :)
It is hard to believe that our soccer season is coming to an end. I only have 2 more games left, one being tonight! I have improved this season~ I am more confident and go after the ball much more. I scored 2 goals in my first game! I play offense and defense both, although if you ask me, I like offense because you can score goals. Mom is our coach again. She would gladly allow someone else to take over, but most parents appreciate that she played soccer for many years and actually knows soccer drills :) Not that we keep score (wink) but our little team is undefeated this season!
In Cooper news.... he had an art show at his preschool and his work was proudly on display. Some of our favorites included this handprint bluebird. Anything handprint goes into Mom's scrapbook....
Harry Potter, get it?!?!
And his fuzzy caterpillar that turned into a bright and adorable butterfly the following week.
Cooper had his exit conference from preschool and here are the photos his teacher took of him. It's amazing how much kids will change in just a school year alone! Cooper knows all of his colors, almost all shapes (including octagon!) and he can count to 30 with the exception of 16 and 18 which he likes to skip past. He is still working on name writing- he can spell his name, write most of the letters, but sometimes gets them out of order. His teachers told our parents what a NICE boy he is. They said they just love the Coop! He is imaginative (that hits the nail right on the head) and he is really sweet and funny. This made my parents smile and realize that he sure can fool others, ha!
Here is our imaginative little man on Superhero Day last week
And here is the side he only shows at home... he yelled at Mom pleading with her to stay home and just retire already from teaching. Yes, he did say "you need to retire, OK!?!?!?"After a 6 year hiatus, Mommy returned to golf! There was a couples night on the course and they went with another couple. She was pretty excited to play. She still remembers how to hit the ball (driving it is her favorite) and she also remembers how frustrating the game can be too.
One of the highlights was finding this tiny painted turtle on the course. She wanted to keep it but Daddy said, "NO WAY!" End of the story.
Mommy is going through an animal stage apparently. Her class went to a farm for a full-day field trip and chicks were hatching while they were there. This one was just a few days old. Secretly, she would love to have a chicken coop in the country so she could hatch chicks and have farm fresh eggs.My school had a family fun day at the middle school~ I decided I am ready for middle school because the gym is gigantic and they have a sweet pool!
On Memorial Day weekend, we went to Grammy's house for some R&R and to do our favorite lake activities. This was the nicest Memorial Day weekend in a loooooong time. Mommy found Cooper and I sitting in these chairs at the end of the dock. It was totally our own idea and this might be one of her favorite pictures of all time.
We went boating and stopped at our favorite pub on the lake for ice cream treats and margaritas for the grown-ups. Ahhhhh, summer!
We went fishing off the dock and caught just about every species in the lake... bluegills, crappies, bass, perch and a tiny walleye.
The lake was still REALLY cold. Only Daddy and Cooper braved it to go skiing. Here is Cooper's debut for the year. He attempted to wear the trainer skis but they quickly flipped off. Apparently 3 year olds must not ski on their own because the ski boots were WAY too big on him :)
Once the skis popped off, he just rode on Daddy's legs!
It has been a wild and crazy few weeks. Birthday celebrations, wrapping up school, Memorial Day weekend, and more. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that we love the most!
